Following adoption by the Transportation Authority Board in April 2007, EnCORE is leading the community effort to implement the projects recommended in the Plan. Most recently, the MTA submitted a grant application to construct improvements to the intersection of Mission and Geneva streets.
Final Report
The Mission Geneva Final Report is available here:
Background
The Mission-Geneva Neighborhood Transportation Plan documents the community's top priority transportation needs - and identifies priority projects to address those needs. Following plan adoption, the neighborhood will work with the City to identify funds for detailed design and implementation. The Plan is the outcome of a technical and intensive community process.

About the study
Project fact sheet (PDF): English | Spanish | Chinese
The Mission-Geneva Neighborhood Transportation Plan documents the community-based effort to identify transportation needs and develop/prioritize conceptual designs for near- and medium-term transportation improvements on Mission Street (between Silver and Rolph) and on Geneva (between Paris and San Jose).
The Study focused on transit and pedestrian safety needs and identified priority projects for detailed design and implementation. Input from residents, merchants, and community groups was a critical component of this work and shaped the Study outcomes.
The Mission-Geneva Neighborhood Transportation Plan project team built on past studies and projects, undertook a comprehensive review of existing conditions, and worked with local stakeholders to prioritize needs. The project team then worked with the community to identify and evaluate top priority transportation improvements. Finally, the Transportation Authority prepared a plan for funding and constructing the community's most important transportation improvements.
Encore: Community Partner
In October 2005, Excelsior Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization (ENCoRe), was awarded a contract to provide outreach and community liaison services to the San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) for the Mission-Geneva Transportation Study. ENCoRe staff was the lead community-based contact throughout the duration of the study on behalf of the SFCTA. Their tasks included conducting focus groups, issuing a community survey of transportation needs, attending community meetings to describe the study, and promoting and facilitating public workshops.
Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)
The Mission-Geneva Transportation Study was guided by an interagency technical advisory committee including two community representatives, MUNI, Department of Parking and Traffic, Department of Public Works, Planning Department, BART, SamTrans, Department of Public Health, Mayor's Office of Economic and Workforce Development, MTC, and Caltrans. The TAC also included two community members, a District 11 appointee and representative from the Transportation Authority Citizen's Advisory Committee. The TAC met periodically to review technical materials and help coordinate inter-agency efforts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Mission-Geneva Transportation Study?
The Study is a community-based effort to identify transportation problems, develop solutions and prioritize design concepts to improve Mission Street (between Silver and Geneva) and Geneva Avenue (between Paris and San Jose). Improvements are needed right away, which is why the study is focusing on solutions that can be implemented relatively quickly (1 to 5 years).
Why is transportation important?
Transportation is how people and goods get from one place to another and includes biking, walking, public transportation (BART/Muni) and driving. Transportation should be safe, pleasant, and efficient, and if done well can help to create a more attractive and vibrant public space.
Who is conducting the study?
The SF County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) is conducting the study in partnership with the Excelsior Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization (ENCoRe), a community-based organization that will provide outreach and community liaison services. The Study also has a technical advisory committee, which will review all proposed improvements and includes two community representatives, Muni, Department of Parking and Traffic, Department of Public Works, Planning Department, BART, SamTrans, Department of Public Health, MTC, and Caltrans.
How can I get involved?
This is a terrific opportunity for community residents, business owners and organizations to participate in the development of a transportation improvement plan by and for the community. If you've ever had a problem crossing the street, catching the bus or driving along Mission Street, you are the most knowledgeable about where the problems are and can inform the SFCTA on how best to resolve them. Community members can participate by attending a public workshop, participating in the outreach committee, or inviting the project team to a local meeting.

The second public workshop in July was a big success. About sixty community members attended and shared their opinions about the future of Mission-Geneva. Thanks to everyone who came!
The workshop began with a general presentation about the proposed changes to the Mission-Geneva corridor.

Workshop 3
ENCoRe and the Transportation Authority hosted the final community workshop for the Mission-Geneva Transportation study on Saturday, November 18, 2006. Staff presented the key elements that will make up the Mission-Geneva Neighborhood Transportation Plan, along with implementation steps. Community participants weighed in on priorities, concerns and next steps. Download a copy of the workshop presentation or open house information posters.
