3. Update on the Vision Zero Two-Year Action Strategy – INFORMATION*  presentation

In February 2015, the city released the Vision Zero Two-Year Action Strategy outlining the action items that San Francisco would pursue through the end of 2016 to address traffic safety. At the committee meeting, Mari Hunter from the SFMTA, and Megan Wier from SFDPH will provide an update on the status of key actions for the five program areas in the Strategy: engineering, enforcement, education, evaluation, and policy.

4. Update on Leading Pedestrian Intervals – INFORMATION

James Shahamiri, Transportation Engineer at SFMTA, will present an update on the status of the agency’s efforts to more systematically implement leading pedestrian intervals (LPIs), which represent a relatively easy and cost-effective approach to improving pedestrian safety by re-timing traffic signals to provide a few seconds of time for pedestrians to begin crossing while vehicles wait. SFMTA is currently in the process of developing guidelines describing where LPIs should be implemented and encouraging SFMTA staff to implement them whenever signals are re-timed.

5. Update on Vision Zero Projects and Initiatives – INFORMATION*  presentation

Tom Maguire, Director of Sustainable Streets at the SFMTA, will present an update on the Vision Zero projects advancing in 2016. Engineering projects include those anticipated to start construction, end construction, or achieve another major milestone (such as completion of the project environmental document) during 2016. The list also includes education and enforcement projects, such as the speeding education and corridor speed reduction program and the e-citation initiative which involves increasing the share of citations made electronically.
